ADVANCES IN TEACHING COMPARATIVE SOCIOLOGY OF NEW EASTERN EUROPE

 

The lectures and colloquiums of the resource faculty will be aimed at providing theoretical background for sociological analysis of New Eastern Europe’ cultural peculiarities and everyday life. Besides, professors will dwell on the teaching methods of the correspondent issues. There is a set of the master-classes, lectures and colloquiums devoted to a specific teaching methods in application to the teaching sociological agenda within BA Curriculum followed by practical session for practical part. Practical part of the summer session is devoted to group discussions of improvement of concrete participants’ syllabi, teaching materials, experience and research-based teaching methods for advance of teaching Sociology of New Eastern Europe.

The other important activity will be presentation of the elaborated teaching modules of the sourcebook “Sociology of New Eastern Europe” by participants under the guidance of the RT. Special attention will be paid to the pedagogical issues in frames of every teaching module, i.e. tasks for students, collected comparative data, visual and other teaching materials. Following group-discussion will be devoted by all participants and resource faculty on how to optimize teaching process and improve teaching material of the module.

Readings for the summer session will be available at the website of the project www.evd-reset.org prior the session to make the participants ready for the lectures and debates on the issues. Also the site as usual hosts the project library which includes the books and articles on the themes of the project, readers of previous sessions, teaching materials presented by participants.

Participants of the project have an assignment to improve their syllabi with the teaching modules (topics) that they have been developed during past two years and to equip them with teaching materials to be presented, discussed and improved during the course of the third project year.

 Anticipated results, outcomes
  • Presentation, discussion and finalizing of the modules for the sourcebook “Sociology of New Eastern Europe”;
  • Teaching modules are developed as teaching complexes on the core sociological dimensions of European societies in comparative perspective (social inequality, participation, values, and identities) and cases on New Eastern European societies.
  • Development of the undergraduate curriculum in sociology in home Universities via discussions of specific teaching methods and practices and implementation of participants these teaching methods to their teaching
  • Academic networking and cooperative results of the working groups' activities, experience exchange between junior and senior faculty from different European Universities.
